Street Scene, Early New York City Slice of Life Film

Uploaded by ChiTownView

Here is the classic story about the lives and loves of a group of residents in a working class building somewhere in New York City. A sort of urban version of Thornton Wilder's "Our Town". This story is almost entirely told from the front steps of this half block and takes place within a day. It is based on a Pulitzer Prize winning play by Elmer Rice

The film features Estelle Taylor, David Landau, Sylvia Sidney, William Collier, and Beulah Bondi. The music score by is Alfred Newman's debut. With it's echoes of Gershwin"s "Rhapsody in Blue". It is a theme that has been used in a number of film noir classics including; Cry of the City, Kiss of Death, I Wake Up Screaming, Where the Sidewalk Ends and The Dark Corner.

This year ChiTownView has begun to explore the streets of other iconic American cities like New York and LA we hope you enjoy this new direction and would love to hear your feedback.
