Reverend Gary Davis & Mississippi Fred McDowell, 2 Vinatge Clips

Published by MindsiMedia on Feb 22, 2013

This is a real gem of a film featuring Reverend Gary Davis a master ragtime guitar picker. A simple black & white film that begins with Mr. Davis in his Harlem apartment playing his guitar. As he plays the camera takes out onto the streets and shows us the faces of the Harlem residents. It includes his final song 'DEATH DON'T HAVE NO MERCY.'.

"Blues Maker" offers over thirteen minutes of blues legend Mississippi Fred Mc Dowell singing and playing. There are some brief snatches of conversation but mostly we get the unfiltered blues. Featuring Fred playing the sldie guitar with a real bottleneck. This film produced in 1969 by the University of Mississippi also has a lot of vintage footage of rural southern life.
