Mary's Mosaic by Peter Janney & JFK Peace Speech 6/10/63

Mary Pinchot Meyer was a member of the American ruling class. She was a beautiful woman who was married to an early member of the CIA. Not your typical trophy wife Mary was also an intellectual, artist, free spirit, lover and confidant to John Kennedy (following her divorce), who she first met in high school.

Among her friends was also Timothy Leary with whom she shared an interest in LSD. This was during a time when the psychedelic was being experimented with by psychiatrists. It is also rumored that she smoked pot used LSD with Kennedy. She was the victim of a sensational daylight murder shortly after the Warren Commission report was released in 1964. This book is a nice little bit of history written by Peter Janney who is another Washington insider and whose father is another CIA asset.

The story is broken into three parts first is the story of her murder, subsequent trial and acquittal of a poor black man who had been charged. The second section gives us the story of Mary and the world she lived in. And the third section takes a look at the CIA and there role in the death of Mary. Those who are interested in getting a broader look at the reasons behind the Kennedy assassination will enjoy reading this book.

Mary Meyer was an ardent advocate for peace and she is credited by many as having an influence on President Kennedy. He was elected president as a war hero and staunch cold warrior. But by the middle of1963 he was looking at things differently. Having ducked a nuclear bullet during the Cuban missile crisis he was moving towards negotiation and diplomacy.

In June of 1963 Kennedy made this speech along with it's offer of a unilateral test ban treaty. It was a huge success and within two months a comprehensive test ban treaty was signed. The world seemed to be on the road to peace and this seemed to be the first step the president was also making plans to withdraw from Vietnam and to reign in the CIA. Of course within six months Kennedy would be dead and the new president would be charting a far different course.

An Atheist Touched By The Hand of God Part 1

I am still an Atheist,

God does not exist

Organized religion is a crutch and a club.

The closest thing to God right now is us.

Our power has grown so great that we can destroy all life on the planet.
What does that make us?
And if we use this power to bring hell to earth what does that make us?

I know this because God revealed it to me.

A dozen years ago I was touched by the hand of God and over the course of a couple of hours I was granted vision and shown a path and given a simple message to tell.

I'm an Atheist so after wrestling with what had happened I ignored it.

Since then my life has fallen apart.

At the time I was a happily married man with a great family and a nice home.

Since than my life has been sucked into a whirlpool of depression, debt and divorce.

Maybe I should have listened and done what I was told.

Maybe I should have lived with the courage of my convictions instead of always taking the easy way out.

I've fallen, had to learn some hard lessons and now am on my way back.

But I'm not there yet.

The truth is I can't live like I have been anymore because I feel I'm not living only existing.

So today I step out and begin to explain how an Atheist can speak for God.

I am to preach a gospel of peace and love. One that is rooted in self control and personal responsibility.

So here is my first message. It's simple but one that has a powerful ability to transform like a wheel.

“Our lives have the meaning we give them and the choices we make about how we live are important.”

This summer there has been a string of senseless gun killings not that there is ever any shortage of them. And I can't just stand by so many people are unafraid to express their frustration and fear through violence. They feel like they have no power so they must lash out and show the world their hate. I feel the need to go in the opposite direction because I feel the frustration and rage because we live in a society that is filled insanity fueled by fear and hate. But I don't want to lash out at people I want to reach out and find a way to express my love.

Now I have put myself on a path where it will end up is not important because we all end up at death. The importance of the path we take is the journey it takes us on. If it all sounds kind of vague and simplistic. Well I'm just getting started here with this but I needed to just stand up and publicly declare myself. Trust me there is much more to come.

Some time this weekend I will post the story of the August evening thirteen years ago when an Atheist was touched by the hand of God.

This will not be the sole topic of my future postings. The rest of the MindsiMedia collection of stories, videos and songs will continue. There is just a larger story I need to be telling and so it begins. This is dedicated to all the victims of violence.

The Wanton Looks & Handcuffs Hot Rock Live In Chicago

Live Sounds In Chicago can be found on YouTube at ChicagoRock1. We began as ChicagoRock1 a video diary of some of the live music that I came across in the Chicago area. For the most part what I covered has been free shows that I felt like going to. It was all kind of infrequent and not a project I was giving much time to. We started off doing rock but now explore all genres of music. So our new name one is much more fitting.

With the new name comes a new mission. That is to be a local / independent broadcast station providing an outlet for local / independent musicians. In the past couple of years I've been out to see a lot of great music and it doesn’t get enough exposure so that's what were here to help give.

This past weekend we were at North Belmont Market Days and saw a couple of terrific bands The Handcuffs & The Wanton Looks. Both were fronted by talented and attractive women which provided a nice relief from the overload of shirtless sweating men that abounded in the area. We have more songs by both bands at our station.

LA Noir / Cops & Gangsters In Old LA

L.A. Noir by John Buntin

Ahh Las Angeles, home to the movie Chinatown, those books by Raymond Chandler, John Ellroy and all the others who have shown the dark side of the city of angles. It is a side drenched in neon, alcohol, cool jazz, hot women, violence, corruption, badmen and the LAPD. But what's the skinny Minnie, what's the real lowdown? Well this book I've just finished gives a nice history of the growth & development of LA's underworld.

It is told through the lives of two of it's most storied players, one from each side of the law. Representing all that is good and true the man they named police headquarters for Chief William Parker. He was an incorruptible force that reformed a a corrupt department and turned the force into the baddest gang in town. With one of the countries most intrusive intelligence gathering networks.

From the other side of the tracks we have the life of gangster Mickey Cohen. Another poor kid from the slums running wild as a youth sucked into the world of illegal, organized vice. A protege of “scarface” Al Capone who worked for before being shipped out of Chicago for being too wild. He ends up out in Los Angeles working for the man who “invented” Las Vegas Bugsy was more like mayor of the strip. Vegas had had gambling since the 1930's when it was legalized with the money of the Chicago mob. Mickey took over the rackets in LA when Bugsy went off to usher in the mega casino Vegas era.

All the stories are here prohibition, the zoot suit riots, the Brenda Allen affair the Watts riots and more. One of my favorites is how Parker used his influence over the TV show Dragnet to have them air an episode designed to get people to support a referendum allowing expanded wiretapping. All and all it's an excellent book offering an insight into a world that has been shown mainly in fiction. It's always interesting to find out what the history is behind the fiction.

On YouTube station ChiTownView we have a series of videos that give some of the history of Chicago crime

Here's a clip that gives some early history of Vegas in it's description..
